About Me
I am a former Assistant Principal and Director of English but first and foremost, I am a teacher of English. I have over 18 years of teaching experience, including 9 years as an examiner for all major exam boards in the UK. Throughout my career, the values of Challenge, Support and Enable underpinned every aspect of my leadership and teaching – these principals remain integral to my approach as an English tutor.
I have a proven track record of outstanding results at GCSE, iGCSE and A Level English Language and English Literature and have been consistently judged as outstanding by external agencies at all Key Stages. The high quality of my teaching and leadership led to me being awarded SLE status in 2012 which required me to coach other leaders and act as a consultant to raise standards in challenging schools As a result of my involvement in Ofsted’s ‘Excellence in English’ case study, I was invited by SSAT to be a speaker at a national conference.
Following the birth of my children and a relocation back to the North East, I embarked upon a career break and began tutoring in libraries, homes and schools across North Tyneside. In 2020, learning moved online and I was fortunate enough to expand my client base across the UK and the world. In order to support as many students as possible, all of my teaching now takes place virtually, using various different platforms and shared documents that allow me to give feedback in real time.
I am committed to ensuring that every student succeeds in achieving their potential and would welcome the opportunity to support students as a tutor. In addition to being able to offer an engaging leaning experience, my role as an examiner has provided me with a unique insight into the assessment objectives for key national examinations.
I am particularly experienced in supporting students to achieve the highest grades in GCSE English Language and English Literature and in providing challenge to students studying for A Level English Literature with the AQA exam board. I am an experienced examiner for AQA GCSE English Language and EDEXCEL GCSE English Literature. Furthermore, my appointment as an examiner for A Level English Language has provided me with an insight into the demands of this AQA examination.
My role as an examiner for CIE for the IGCSE English as a Second Language reading paper, Singapore listening paper and O level composition paper has also expanded my understanding of the requirements of international qualifications. I am also an examiner for EDEXCEL iGCSE English Language and Literature and have extensive experience of supporting international students studying in the UK and abroad.
I am fully committed to ensuring that every student succeeds on their own terms and have a strong belief in the centrality of English to the education system. I am passionate about the teaching of English Language and Literature to all levels and would welcome the opportunity to support students in their study of this subject.
